This Is Why You Feel Lost in you 20s

“Where there is no vision, the people perish.” — The All-Time Wise Guru, Salmon

What is vision? And how could its absence possibly lead to perishing? On the surface, “vision” might sound like a lofty concept reserved for CEOs, presidents, or global organizations. But in truth, vision is one of the most personal, essential elements of human survival — and its absence is indeed a shortcut to mortality.

The Power of Vision in the Darkest Hours

Consider the life of Viktor Frankl, the Austrian psychiatrist and neurologist who survived the horrors of In 1942, Frankl was deported to multiple camps, including the infamous Auschwitz. There, he witnessed the unraveling of human dignity under the weight of starvation, forced labor, and death.

What kept him alive wasn’t just physical endurance — it was vision. A vision of meaning. A vision of seeing his beloved wife again. A vision of contributing to the world by sharing his psychological insights. Frankl held on to a “why” so compelling that it helped him withstand the unbearable.

In his book Man’s Search for Meaning, Frankl wrote:

“Those who have a ‘why’ to live, can bear with almost any ‘how.’”

His survival wasn’t accidental. It was fueled by a clear, internal image of the future — a purpose strong enough to outshine the present agony.

Vision is Not Just for the Elite — It’s for You

Today, when most people hear the word vision, they think of corporate mission statements or national development plans. But vision is far more intimate. It should begin not with institutions, but with individuals. In fact, it must.

In our 21st-century world — especially in our twenties — we’re bombarded by distractions like never before. Social media, instant gratification, and cultural noise fill our days. Without a strong internal compass, it’s easy to drift. And here’s the danger: perishing isn’t always sudden. Sometimes, it looks like existing without truly living. It’s losing our sense of direction, one forgotten dream at a time.

What Vision Really Is

A vision is a clear and compelling picture of the future you want to create or live. It answers questions like:

  • What kind of person do I want to become?
  • What does a meaningful life look like to me?
  • What legacy do I want to leave behind?

Vision breaks this big picture down into tangible daily, weekly, and monthly steps. It simplifies life decisions — what time you wake up, what you eat, who you hang out with, what degree you pursue, how you spend your money, and whom you love. Vision brings intentionality to everything.

The Consequence of Visionlessness

Without vision, we wander. We fall into jobs we don’t like, relationships that drain us, and lifestyles that harm us. We make choices that look safe but ultimately steal our potential. Slowly, quietly, we perish — emotionally, spiritually, and even physically.

A visionless life is a reactive life. And as the ancient wisdom goes:

“Where there is no vision, the people perish.”
Not because they’re weak. Not because they lack opportunity. But because without vision, there’s no reason to fight through the hard days.

Begin Today

The path to a meaningful life doesn’t start with external achievement — it starts with internal clarity. What do you want from this one short, wild life? Who do you want to become?

It’s not too late to begin seeing. In fact, it’s the only way to truly live.
